11. まもる MAMORU

There are in the whole island 19 mamoru-kun and one police lady too Marutaya (I am not confirmed her name already).

He is in the main square of Hirara (Miyakojima city).

He is more than a dummy  with the image of an ancient traffic policeman.

He is a nice image who has become iconic for Miyakojima.

Beaches are an amazing resource, the blue and green tones of the sea, the diversity of fish... 

The tax stone is also something to talk another day, it is quite fun, but it will come with little history and ruines. 

Mamoru is an special icon of this island that offer some other interests as botanical or ecological or what is said above.

There are shirts, refreshments, biscuits... Dozens of items with mamoru. It is fun.

 

The one above is in the main street, all the others are in any cross of the roads anywhere in the island.

To tell you the truth in three days I have not seen yet any real policeman, not police car but him. I have seen ambulances and firemen but as police only mamoru.   

Looking at Mamoru a friend reminded an spanish movie from 1956 : MANOLO GUARDIA URBANO Director: Rafael J. Salvia, I add two pics I gather from that movie. In one of then Manolo is wearing winter uniform, in the other the summer one in his popular Madrid location . Mamoru always with the winter one :-)
